Using Professional Scaffolding Contractors in Bromley

Due to the health and safety risks involved in construction and renovation jobs, it is essential for domestic and commercial clients to choose reliable and professional scaffolding contractors to fulfil their Bromley project. As one of the top scaffolding companies in the South East London area, we provide advice with recommendations for scaffolding services and ensure that our scaffolding erectors assemble and routinely inspect all supporting structures.

Scaffolding Contractors and Equipment

When initially searching for scaffolding companies, we recommend that Bromley clients check the credentials that demonstrate professional scaffolding contractors are audited and approved by industry-leading regulatory bodies. At Ideal Scaffolding Ltd, we are accredited by the Construction Industry Scaffolder's Record Scheme (CISRS) and our scaffolding erectors hold current Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) cards for verification. Our scaffolding contractors are officially qualified from the Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme (CHAS) and the British Safety Council (BSC), which means the scaffolding services we provide for Bromley clients are safe and equipment is ready to be used for assembly.

Scaffolding Components

Scaffolding Boards

As well as being connected to the frame, scaffolding boards are multipurpose materials which can be incorporated into other ground-level areas throughout your Bromley site. Scaffolding boards can be used as makeshift walkways across softer, muddy surfaces and to offer support to workers undertaking jobs whilst kneeling.

The following British Standards cover sizes and dimensional tolerances of high-quality scaffolding boards:

  • Timber scaffolding boards must comply with BS2482:2009
  • Plastic or laminated scaffolding boards need to adhere to TG20:13 Section 4.2

Scaffolding Poles and Tubes

Typically made from galvanised, tubular steel or aluminium, scaffolding services offered by scaffolding companies such as our own supply a host of poles and tubes. These can be cut to size, based on individual job specifications for clients in and around Bromley.

  • Standards are vertical poles which support scaffolding frames from the ground to the top
  • Ledgers are evenly spaced in a horizontal position and attached to the standards. Scaffolding contractors can use ledgers to offer further support as diagonal cross-braces
  • Transoms are fitted at a 90° angle above the ledgers to support the scaffolding boards. Their function is also to hold the standards in place

Scaffolding contractors and scaffolding erectors will ensure the tubes and poles comply with the following:

  • Galvanised scaffolding tubes should meet BS EN 39 Type 4 regulations
  • High-tensile steel must be in accordance with BS EN 10210-1

Couplers

Pressed or drop-forged steel couplers are used by scaffolding erectors to connect poles and tubes together at right angles. Some couplers are zinc-plated to buttress the strength they usually afford.

Equipment Inspections

Scaffolding companies with CITB, CSCS and CHAS training are fully qualified to conduct safety checks as part of regular scaffolding services. This begins before Bromley workforces can access the platforms, during the scaffolding hire period and during the breakdown process. It is important that all equipment is strength tested by scaffolding erectors and managed by scaffolding companies.

  • Inspections will need to adhere to the TG20:13 Compliance Sheet guidelines
  • Scaffolding contractors confirm that the survey results are documented in a handover certificate
  • Scaffolding erectors will check for any signs of damage, from guard and safety rails, to transoms, scaffolding boards, brace pins and couplers, to name a few
